In order to improve learning outcomes for students, it is recommended that teachers use a variety of visual aids in their lessons. This can include techniques such as guided imagery, graphic organizers, pictures, drawings, and short video clips. By using these techniques, students are able to better organize and interpret content, and understand information in non-linguistic ways. In this article, you will find our compiled Week 3 – Quarter 4 Daily Lesson Log | May 15-19, 2023 DLL Update!
Guided imagery is a technique where students are taken on a journey in their minds. This can be particularly useful for teaching subjects such as history or literature, where students can imagine themselves in different time periods or settings. Graphic organizers are also effective, as they help children organize information into a structured format. For example, a storyboard can be used to help students sequence events in a story.
Pictures, drawings, and short video clips are also valuable tools for representing knowledge in non-linguistic ways. These visual aids can be particularly helpful for students who may struggle with traditional teaching methods or who have different learning styles.
It is recommended that teachers allocate approximately 5 to 8 minutes within a lesson plan for creating a visualization, followed by a discussion. This can help ensure that students are able to fully understand and absorb the information being presented.
Lesson closure is also an important component of effective teaching. This can be initiated by the teacher, who might ask students to summarize the main points of the lesson, or it can be completed through a performance task and oral presentation by the students themselves.
By integrating these elements into their everyday practice, teachers can become more conscious and purposeful in their teaching. This, in turn, can help improve learning outcomes for students and allow teachers to better articulate their methods to colleagues, parents, and the public. With continued practice and experience, teachers can even develop these same planning and teaching skills in other novice teachers, ensuring a legacy of effective and engaging education for years to come.
