The Curriculum and Lesson Planning
When speaking about school curriculum, it usually means a list of classes that teachers teach throughout the year to educate students. But curriculum is much more than just a list. It’s like a plan for learning with goals, specific things to learn and a schedule. A curriculum shows how they schools choose, organize and teach stuff. It might also include a plan for checking how well students are learning. Some teachers think of it as a special document. Overall, curriculum includes what’s taught in school, different subjects, the stuff to learn, a plan for studying, the materials used, the order of classes, goals to reach, the whole learning plan, what happens in school and what students learn.
So, who decides what gets taught in schools? Do teachers have a say in making the learning plan? There’s a big discussion going on among educators at different levels about who gets to control what students learn. At the national level, DepEd is very involved in setting rules, frameworks and guidelines for schools. They also have big tests for students and rules to make sure schools follow the guidelines.
At the district level, educators make rules and guidelines for the curriculum in their schools. They also work with department rules to plan what students should learn, choose teaching materials and provide help to teachers.
In schools, teachers make their own plan for what students should learn. For example, they decide what the students should learn about Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao in elementary school. Schools also make plans to get better at teaching specific things.
In classrooms, teachers create lessons and activities for students. They also check how well their plan is working and if students are learning. They follow the rules set by DepEd and district to make sure students reach the goals and follow the school’s plan.
