These sheets help teachers support learning, engage students actively and assess their progress effectively. Research shows that well-crafted LAS significantly improve student learning outcomes. The Department of Education’s policy, as outlined in DepEd Order No. 18, series of 2020, provides guidelines for implementing the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP). This plan aims to ensure safe and effective learning opportunities through various methods, including the use of learning activity sheets. LAS are essential components of Self-Learning Modules (SLMs) and help evaluate students’ understanding throughout the course.
In modular teaching, LAS are valuable additional resources available in both print and digital formats designed to create engaging learning experiences. These sheets often include questions or activities that reinforce learning, making them vital tools for understanding and retaining information. By analyzing LAS, teachers can identify which students understand the material and which need additional help allowing them to adjust their teaching accordingly.
Learning activity sheets are built on scientific principles, allowing teachers to guide rather than just instruct. Students use these sheets to identify issues, explore solutions and evaluate outcomes, focusing on reinforcing what they have already learned. While LAS do not typically introduce new problem-solving skills beyond what is taught in class, they remain crucial for enhancing learning and supporting students on their educational journey.
A well-designed LAS helps students apply specific skills and knowledge to achieve their learning goals. Teachers must consider several factors when planning activities to engage and support student growth, using a model of learning activity design that highlights four key aspects. These aspects, while interconnected must align with the overall learning strategy to ensure comprehensive topic coverage. Each student’s activities should be flexible, varying based on individual needs and goals.
The principles of designing LAS depend on the teacher’s understanding of students’ needs and desired outcomes. This process involves various tools, resources and feedback from public discussions ensuring that LAS remain effective in modern education.
