What is Daily Lesson Log (DLL)? Under the Department of Education (DepEd), a Daily Lesson Log is a teacher’s written plan that outlines the day’s learning activities, objectives, materials and assessment strategies. It’s more than a routine. It’s a critical tool that ensures every minute of classroom time contributes to meaningful learning. Lesson planning involves deliberate techniques that help teachers manage time, focus on objectives and ensure student engagement.
We’ve compiled ready-made Grade 3 Daily Lesson Logs (DLLs) for the 1st Quarter to help streamline your lesson planning and instructional delivery. These MELC-based DLLs follow the latest DepEd standards and are available below for free download for SY 2025–2026.
One of key techniques is Begin with the End. This reminds teachers to plan with a clear outcome in mind. By identifying what students should learn by the end of the lesson, teachers can design activities that logically lead to mastery. It supports the DepEd’s principle of aligning learning competencies with daily instruction.
Another powerful method is the 4Ms—Manageable, Measurable, Made First and Most Important. A good lesson should have goals that fit within the time limit (manageable), be easy to assess (measurable), start with clear objectives (made first) and focus on what’s most critical (most important). These four aspects help teachers stay focused and make the most out of limited class time.
The Post-it Technique encourages teachers to write and display their lesson objectives on the board. This keeps students and observers informed and focused. Meanwhile, the Shortest PathTechnique reminds teachers to use the most direct route to reach learning objectives, whether that’s through discussion, group work or direct instruction.
Finally, the Double Plan Technique stresses the importance of considering not just what the teacher does but also what students should be doing. DepEd’s lesson planning formats also encourage this two-way design promoting student-centered learning.
Effective lesson planning isn’t just a task to complete. It’s a mindset. It bridges the gap between curriculum goals and student learning outcomes. For aspiring teachers, mastering these planning techniques will help create meaningful, organized and goal-driven lessons.
