—— RESOURCE TEACHING
A recent addition to the instructional delivery modes of the IMPACT system is Resource Teaching handled by specialized subject teachers in levels 4 to 6. Originally, there was no Resource Teacher as only the Instructional Supervisor handles the whole class from grades 1 16 to 6 grouped as learning families using the learning modules and implementing the instructional delivery system. However, as the learning process improves and with more subject specialists handling subject areas for grades 4, 5, and 6, schools implementing the IMPACT system resorted to providing learners with content enhancements through intervention of a subject specialist teacher aptly called Resource Teacher. Resource Teaching was also used for the following reasons:
- To make use of technology enhancements to the learning materials such as the use of audio and video clips. The audio and video clips were developed under the ELSA (Educational Livelihood Skills Alliance) Project of the Center funded by USAID. Permission to use these audio and video clips was granted by USAID for use in public elementary schools. Aside from these audio and video clips, additional audio clips were also developed to enhance the listening skills of pupils in Levels 1 to 6 in Filipino and English under the IMPACT system. Given these, the learning system was enhanced.
- To reinforce the learning of higher order thinking skills with the Resource Teacher through the art of questioning and reacting techniques; and
- To provide enhancements to the lessons taken in the learning modules and to review the learners prior to their taking the posttests upon completion of the learning modules. When the peer-groups have finished the learning modules, the Resource Teacher conducts sessions to provide additional content enhancements to the lessons in the modules. DepEdprovided textbooks are additional reference materials the Resource Teacher could use in providing enhancements. When the Resource Teacher is providing enhancements, the setup is like a conventional class of the same level (e.g. all grade 5 level) with learners having completed the same core learning module. Here, the peer-groups can come from different ISs. It is also during these sessions that the RT can check for mastery of content and would then give the go signal for the learners to proceed to the Testing Room and take the module post tests.
