FALSE: March 11, 2024 Eid’l Fitr Holiday Proclamation

In a statement released on Thursday, the Palace refuted claims circulating online regarding a supposed holiday declaration for March 11, 2024. The document, labeled “Proclamation No. 729,” purportedly announced March 11 as a nationwide holiday in celebration of Eid’l Fitr, a significant occasion in the Muslim calendar.

However, according to official sources, this proclamation is fraudulent. The document in question is identified as a tampered version of Proclamation No. 729, issued in 2019 by then Executive Secretary Medialdea during the previous administration.

“The circulating document labeled ‘Proclamation No. 729,’ which purportedly declares Monday, March 11, 2024, as a nationwide regular holiday in celebration of Eid’l Fitr, is spurious,” stated the Official Gazette on its Facebook page, addressing the misinformation.

The Palace clarified that there has been no official declaration of March 11, 2024, as a holiday for Eid’l Fitr. Eid’l Fitr marks the conclusion of Ramadan, a month of fasting, spiritual reflection and growth for Muslims worldwide.

Traditionally, Eid’l Fitr is celebrated with special prayers known as Salat al-Eid, held in mosques or large open spaces. After the prayers, Muslims exchange greetings such as “Eid Mubarak” and visit each other’s homes, dressed in new or their finest attire, to share festive meals.

The Palace’s denouncement emphasizes the importance of verifying information before sharing it particularly on social media platforms to prevent the spread of misinformation. As of now, there has been no official announcement regarding a holiday for Eid’l Fitr on March 11, 2024.
