Instructional Design Framework

The Instructional Design Framework for Kindergarten to Grade 10, as mandated by RA 10533 and DepEd Order No. 21, s. 2019, emphasizes learner-centered, developmentally appropriate, and inclusive pedagogical approaches. These methods include constructivist, inquiry-based, reflective, collaborative, and integrative strategies, tailored to meet diverse student needs and contexts.

Key Features of the K-10 Instructional Design Framework:

The framework spans all educational stages, focusing on learner participation in decision-making regarding learning activities. It facilitates collaboration among school administrators, teachers, and students to achieve learning goals and enhance student progress. The framework promotes flexibility to foster creativity and collaboration among educators and students alike. Rather than dictating procedures, it describes essential elements and considerations for effective teaching strategies and educational approaches to meet learning standards consistently.

The Four Instructional Principles (4Is) for Basic Education:

  1. Inclusive: Ensures accessible and meaningful learning experiences for all students, including those with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  2. Ideational: Cultivates creative thinking and idea generation without judgment, encouraging learners to explore multiple solutions and innovative connections.
  3. Integrative: Combines elements to create unified learning experiences, utilizing real-world contexts to deepen understanding and foster connections between concepts.
  4. Innovative: Promotes creative instructional design using emerging technologies, diverse teaching methods, and innovative assessment strategies to engage learners effectively.

The Four Key Aspects of Instructional Design (4Cs):

  1. Context: Relates teaching materials to students’ daily experiences, enhancing motivation and active participation in learning.
  2. Connection: Develops transferable knowledge and understanding, enabling students to apply learning to new situations and challenges.
  3. Collaboration: Encourages cooperative learning where students work together to achieve common goals, fostering interpersonal skills and accountability.
  4. Creativity: Stimulates critical thinking and imagination, encouraging learners to generate innovative ideas and solutions.

The Four Essential Facets of Learning (4Es):

  1. Engage: Captures learners’ interest and motivation through active participation and emotional connection to learning activities.
  2. Explore: Encourages independent discovery and problem-solving, fostering curiosity and active learning.
  3. Experience: Applies knowledge and skills in practical contexts, preparing learners for real-world applications through simulations and case studies.
  4. Empathize: Promotes socio-emotional learning by connecting learners with material, fostering understanding, communication skills, and conflict resolution.

This comprehensive framework guides educators in creating effective, engaging learning experiences that support lifelong learning and holistic development across all educational levels.
