The Department of Education (DepEd) emphasizes the critical role of instructional planning in effective teaching and learning. Instructional planning involves determining the learning experiences students will encounter, which includes deciding on the content to be taught, selecting teaching materials, designing learning activities and organizing how time will be used in the classroom such as these Week 7 – Quarter 1 Matatag DLL Daily Lesson Logs | September 9 – 13, 2024 DLL.
Instructional planning is essential as it sets clear expectations for students and helps teachers choose the right materials and activities to meet those expectations. It ensures that teaching and learning remain the primary focus in the classroom, making the best use of instructional time and addressing students’ needs. Research shows that effective teachers consistently organize and plan their instruction. The K to 12 curriculum’s clearly defined content and performance standards, along with learning competencies make it easier for teachers to engage in both short-term and long-term planning.
Under the K to 12 Basic Education Program, teachers can plan for various timeframes, such as a year, semester, quarter, unit, or single lesson ensuring the curriculum is fully covered. DepEd has issued guidelines for daily lesson preparation, stressing that planning is key to delivering quality education. This daily preparation also promotes reflective practice, encouraging teachers to think critically about their teaching methods and make necessary adjustments.
The Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers, adopted in 1997 states that teachers must uphold the highest standards of quality education and make thorough preparations for teaching. To support this, DepEd’s policy on Daily Lesson Logs (DLL) or Detailed Lesson Plans (DLP) reinforces the importance of instructional planning. These guidelines aim to help teachers manage their instructional duties effectively ensuring they meet their core responsibility of facilitating learning in the classroom.
When planning lessons, teachers can use a variety of strategies and methods. They must consider the diversity of learners and choose approaches that best meet the needs of all students in the classroom.
