Grade 9 Daily Lesson Log (DLL) – 1st Quarter | MELC-Based SY 2025–2026

Daily Lesson Log and Lesson Planning

What is Daily Lesson Log (DLL)? It is a tool mandated by the Department of Education (DepEd) to help teachers plan, organize and reflect on their daily teaching. DLLs are not just formal requirements. They are essential for delivering structured and effective lessons. Through lesson planning, teachers set learning objectives, select materials and map out classroom activities. But more than that, DLLs help teachers become reflective practitioners. That is constantly improving their teaching based on actual classroom experiences.

Download ready-made Grade 9 DLLs for the [1st/2nd/3rd/4th] Quarter, designed to assist with effective lesson planning and teaching. These MELC-based logs meet current DepEd standards and are free to access for SY 2025–2026.

A critical phase of lesson planning is the ReflectionPhase. It encourages teachers to ask: “What went well?”, “What should I improve next time?” and “What did I learn today?” Far from being a sign of weakness, reflecting on what happened during a lesson allows teachers to refine their methods. This recursive process helps teachers adjust their strategies to better meet student needs. It also aligns with DepEd’s focus on learner-centered instruction under the MATATAG Curriculum.

Two effective models of lesson planning—PPP and WIPPEA—support reflective teaching. The PPP Model (Presentation, Practice, Production) is commonly used in language classes. It starts with introducing new content, then guides students through controlled practice and finally allows them to apply knowledge in open-ended activities. This model supports gradual release of responsibility which is ideal for beginner learners.

Meanwhile, the WIPPEA Model (Warm-up, Introduction, Presentation, Practice, Evaluation, Application) provides a more comprehensive structure. It begins with reviewing past lessons and ends with real-life applications. Each stage builds upon the last ensuring learners not only understand the lesson but also use it beyond the classroom.

Both models highlight the importance of planning, student engagement and reflection. In DepEd’s context, the use of DLLs combined with reflective lesson planning helps teachers meet curriculum goals and respond effectively to diverse learner needs. More than a document, the Daily Lesson Log is a professional tool that empowers teachers to grow, adapt and teach better every day.
