Types of Lesson Planning
Lesson planning is categorized into three types: long-term, short-term, and daily planning. Long-term planning involves designing a comprehensive plan for an entire school year or semester. This includes the teacher’s schedule, the expectations for students, the content to be taught, assessment methods and teaching strategies. It sets the foundation for what needs to be accomplished over time and allows the teacher to customize the format based on their teaching style.
Short-term planning, or unit planning, focuses on weekly or monthly instruction. This includes specific topics, learning activities, assessment tools, and materials needed. It helps the teacher stay on track, avoid repetition and address the intended learning outcomes more precisely.
Daily planning, which includes the Daily Lesson Log, provides a summary of what the teacher will teach on a given day. It typically contains the class schedule, lesson objectives, daily routines and needed materials. Creating the DLL in advance helps the teacher stay organized and flexible especially when handling multiple subjects or grade levels.
Effective lesson planning not only prepares teachers for instruction but also promotes student engagement, supports classroom routines and ensures that learning is aligned with DepEd standards.
