Quarter 2 Grade 4 Lesson Exemplars (LE) Compilation SY 2024 – 2025

A Lesson Exemplar (LE) is a model that helps students understand key concepts and problem-solving strategies. These lesson examples clarify assessment criteria, improve comprehension and enhance student performance. They are widely used across different subjects to make teaching and learning more effective. Research suggests that lesson exemplars can bridge learning gaps for both students and teachers by providing concrete examples of high-quality work. Creating lesson exemplars however, can be a time-consuming process. Teachers must first decide if they want to use exemplars, then gather or create suitable examples. If teachers use model answers, it saves time compared to using past student work which requires permission and additional preparation. Teachers also need to choose the right number of examples, as more examples demand extra time for selection, typing and annotation. Detailed notes explaining the grading criteria further increase the time required but make the exemplars more useful for students.

To maximize their value, lesson exemplars should be general enough to be used across various settings while still maintaining their relevance. This ensures they can be used over several years, helping students understand what is expected in assessments. These models are practical tools that show students different levels of quality, not just the perfect answers making them particularly valuable in criterion-referenced assessments.

Lesson exemplars play a key role in fair grading by helping students visualize the learning goals. Instead of just stating grading criteria, lesson exemplars offer clear examples of what good performance looks like. They help students develop the skills, knowledge and effort needed to meet educational standards. Studies show that lesson exemplars provide timely feedback, which traditional grading often lacks leading to better understanding and improved performance. Lesson exemplars are powerful tools that set clear expectations, promote fair assessments and enhance both teaching and learning outcomes.
