GRADE 6 (Matatag Soon) – 1st Periodical Tests with TOS | SY 2024 – 2025

Exams and tests provide clear evidence of students’ academic progress and can be more reliable and objective than subjective evaluations. Choosing between standardized tests and locally created assessments depends on what you need to measure and the resources available. Standardized tests are useful when you have a clear understanding of what you want to evaluate. They offer a broad measure and can be compared across different regions. On the other hand, locally created assessments are tailored to specific groups of students and directly align with the local curriculum. While developing these tools takes time and effort and their results cannot be compared with regional or statewide averages, they offer valuable insights into individual performance goals.

Course-embedded assessment is a method of evaluating student learning using the actual work produced in specific courses. This approach utilizes existing data such as test scores, quiz results and essays or includes additional tasks designed specifically to measure student learning. Key elements of course-embedded assessment include:

  1. Task Selection: Choose or create tasks that show whether students are meeting learning goals and significant outcomes.
  2. Assessment Focus: Evaluate assignments based on how well they meet program objectives, not just the course grade.
  3. Goal Conversion: Turn learning goals into measurable standards.
  4. Rating Scales: Develop detailed rating scales with point values for each level of achievement.
  5. Overall Scoring: Combine the scores from various criteria to provide an overall assessment.

This method fits well within the structure of a single course and is easy to apply. However, it requires careful planning and analysis. While it is effective for assessing and improving performance within a specific course, it may not be as useful for evaluating performance across an entire program.
