As Grade 3 teachers, we understand that lesson planning is far more than going through the motions of documentation because it’s about creating meaningful learning experiences that resonate with our students. The Grade 3 Daily Lesson Log (DLL) – Quarter 2 | MATATAG SY 2025–2026 serves not just as a requirement but as a roadmap that mirrors the unique needs of our learners, the available resources in our schools and the natural rhythm of our classrooms. Guided by proven principles of lesson planning, it emphasizes the importance of context, logical sequencing of skills and a balanced integration of different learning approaches.
For example, think about a Grade 3 English class where learners are asked to compare characters from two different short stories. Without prior exposure to simple comparison exercises, this task can be overwhelming. That’s why the DLL serves as a structured guide by ensuring that skills are introduced in manageable steps, building from previous knowledge and leading learners toward mastery. In real classroom moments, like when a shy student suddenly raises their hand to explain the difference between two story characters, we see the value of thoughtful planning. That’s what the Grade 3 DLL is designed to support: small but powerful breakthroughs in learning.
The Grade 3 Daily Lesson Log Quarter 2 is anchored in the MATATAG Curriculum, ensuring every activity, objective and assessment is not only aligned with DepEd standards but also responsive to the developmental needs of eight- and nine-year-old learners.
Overview of Grade 3 Daily Lesson Logs for Quarter 2
In Quarter 2, Grade 3 DLLs cover a range of learning areas, each with competencies designed to build literacy, numeracy and values formation:
English – Learners continue developing fluency in oral and written communication, focusing on comprehension, vocabulary, grammar awareness and text creation.
Filipino – Lessons encourage learners to deepen their appreciation of Filipino language and culture through reading, writing and understanding grade-level appropriate texts.
Mathematics – Core topics include multiplication, division, simple fractions and problem-solving strategies. DLLs guide teachers in breaking down challenging concepts into step-by-step contextual activities.
Science – Learners explore living and non-living things, weather patterns and the importance of caring for the environment. Hands-on experiments and observation tasks are highlighted.
ESP – Character education and values integration are central, teaching learners about respect, responsibility, and Filipino identity.
Other Subjects – MAPEH lessons balance creativity and well-being, while Makabansa introduces learners to community life, history and culture.
Some lessons may feel easier (like identifying sight words in English or recalling basic multiplication facts) while others push learners to higher-order thinking (like analyzing short stories or applying science concepts to real-life problems). The DLL helps teachers navigate these transitions smoothly across Week 1 to Week 8 of Quarter 2, ensuring coverage without rushing.

How to Plan and Deliver these Lessons Effectively
Effective planning doesn’t stop at writing the DLL because it comes alive in the classroom. Here are some best practices drawn from lesson planning principles:
Consider Context – Every class is different. Think about your learners’ backgrounds, the resources available and the school environment. For example, in a rural classroom with limited tech, storytelling and community-based activities may be more engaging than digital-based tasks.
Sequence Learning Logically – Start with simple, familiar tasks before moving to more complex ones. In Math, review multiplication facts before introducing division. In English, ensure learners are comfortable with basic vocabulary before expecting them to write short paragraphs.
Integrate Multiple Domains of Learning – Blend cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills. A Science lesson on plants can include reading a short informational text (cognitive), reflecting on the importance of trees (affective) and planting seeds (psychomotor).
Promote Active Participation – DLLs should open space for group work, role-playing and project-based tasks. For instance, a lesson on Filipino values can culminate in a short class skit showing “paggalang” (respect).
Assess Continuously – Use quick formative checks like exit tickets, thumbs up/down, or journal reflections to monitor learning and adjust pacing.
Quarter 2 is often when Grade 3 learners begin to show greater independence in their studies. With the Quarter 2 Grade 3 Daily Lesson Log, teachers are guided to plan lessons that nurture literacy, critical thinking and values formation, all while keeping activities age-appropriate and engaging. The DLL is both a safety net and a launchpad. It ensures we cover essential competencies while allowing room for creativity and responsiveness to classroom realities.
When used thoughtfully, the Grade 3 DLL Week 1 to Week 8 becomes a partner in shaping confident, capable and compassionate learners.
