After experiencing their first periodical tests, many children are now more eager or sometimes a little nervous to face new lessons. Teachers, on the other hand carefully reflect on the results of those assessments. Did their pupils struggle with reading comprehension? Were math concepts like number patterns and place value fully grasped? This is where the Grade 2 Quarter 2 Lesson Exemplars (LE) play a crucial role.

Lesson Exemplars serve as structured teaching guides aligned with the DepEd MATATAG Curriculum. They not only help teachers ensure that learning competencies are achieved but also provide ready-made models for effective lesson delivery. For parents, LEs provide a window into what their children are expected to learn week by week, ensuring stronger support at home. With clear objectives, activities and assessments, these exemplars guide teachers in creating classrooms that are both engaging and standards-based.

Grade 2 Quarter 2 Lesson Exemplars (LE) Compilation SY 2025–2026

Quarter 2 covers some of the most essential skills in the Grade 2 curriculum ensuring that learners build on their Quarter 1 foundation. According to the MATATAG-aligned guides:

  • English – Students strengthen reading fluency and comprehension by identifying story elements, expanding vocabulary and practicing simple writing tasks. Oral communication activities also emphasize clear expression of ideas.
  • Filipino – Learners focus on pagbasa ng maikling kwento, pagbuo ng pangungusap, at tamang gamit ng salita. They also begin analyzing simple texts while improving grammar awareness.
  • Mathematics – Quarter 2 introduces addition and subtraction with regrouping, basic multiplication concepts, measurement of length, and simple problem-solving using real-life situations.
  • Makabansa (Araling Panlipunan) – Children explore local community helpers, barangay roles and symbols of Filipino identity, making the lessons relevant to everyday life.
  • GMRC/Values Education – Focus is placed on respect, responsibility and practicing kindness at home and in school.
  • English/Filipino Literacy Integration – Vocabulary building, phonics (CVCC, CVCe words), and comprehension strategies are reinforced through weekly texts.

Each lesson is mapped by Week/Frequency (Weeks 1–8) to ensure teachers can pace instruction properly. The competencies are carefully aligned with Content Standards, Performance Standards and Learning Competencies making sure that by the end of Quarter 2, learners can apply knowledge across multiple subjects confidently.

These topics are crucial because Grade 2 is a formative year where children must master foundational skills that will prepare them for more abstract lessons in higher grades. The exemplars ensure spiral progression, meaning lessons are introduced, reinforced and revisited at deeper levels as learners move through the curriculum.

  • Integrate with Daily Lesson Logs (DLLs): Use the exemplar as the backbone of your lesson, then customize activities in your DLL.
  • Combine with Learning Activity Sheets (LAS): These sheets provide hands-on reinforcement, especially useful for home-based practice.
  • Contextualize: If the exemplar talks about “market day,” relate it to the local palengke or sari-sari store so students connect better.
  • Differentiate: Provide simpler activities for struggling learners and enrichment tasks for advanced ones.
  • Assessment Feedback: Use formative assessments from the exemplars to adjust teaching methods weekly.
  • For teachers, these exemplars can also be paired with digital resources such as multimedia presentations or short educational videos to keep lessons interactive.
  • Parents can also review the exemplars to guide at-home study sessions. Together, these tools foster a holistic and supportive learning environment.
