As the first quarter of school year closes, many Grade 1 classrooms are filled with excitement and curiosity. Some children eagerly flip through their notebooks, proud of what they’ve learned while others get a little nervous after seeing their first periodical test results. Teachers, too, often take this moment to reflect: Did my learners grasp the fundamentals of reading? Do they need more practice with counting numbers beyond 20? Should I adjust my teaching style based on the challenges they faced last quarter? This is where Grade 1 Quarter 2 Lesson Exemplars (LE) become invaluable.
Lesson Exemplars are structured guides aligned with DepEd’s MATATAG Curriculum ensuring that teaching strategies match the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs). For teachers, they provide tested lesson flows and activity suggestions. For parents, they offer a clear picture of what their child will learn week by week. Most importantly, they give young learners a roadmap, helping them feel more confident as they step into the second quarter of the school year.
Grade 1 Quarter 2 Lesson Exemplars (LE) Compilation SY 2025–2026
The Grade 1 Quarter 2 Lesson Exemplars cover Weeks 1–8 and are directly aligned with DepEd’s Content Standards, Performance Standards and Learning Competencies. Each subject is carefully sequenced to build on what learners mastered in Quarter 1.
- Language: Focus on sentence construction, use of common expressions and early writing tasks. By Week 4, learners practice writing short descriptive sentences.
- Reading and Literacy: Quarter 2 strengthens decoding skills, vocabulary building and comprehension of short stories. Week 6 introduces inferencing, helping pupils connect ideas beyond literal meaning.
- Mathematics: Children expand from numbers 1–20 to numbers up to 100, basic addition and subtraction, and understanding simple patterns. Week 7 emphasizes solving real-life word problems.
- Makabansa: Learners explore symbols of nationhood and community roles. For example, Week 3 discusses Philippine holidays and their importance.
- GMRC: Weekly topics revolve around respect, responsibility and self-discipline. Week 5 encourages learners to demonstrate kindness through classroom chores.
Each topic isn’t just academic. It’s tied to real-life application. For example, when practicing subtraction, pupils may solve problems like “If you have 10 mangoes and share 3 with a friend, how many are left?” These scenarios make learning relatable and meaningful.
These exemplars directly reflect DepEd’s learning continuum:
- Content Standards: What learners should know.
- Performance Standards: What they should be able to demonstrate.
- Learning Competencies: The specific skills developed each week.
Quarter 2 is essential because it strengthens the foundation set in Quarter 1. Reading shifts from learning letters and sounds to actual story comprehension. Mathematics grows from counting to understanding number relationships. GMRC and Makabansa guide learners in developing moral and civic values, crucial in their formative years.

How to Use These Exemplars Effectively
- Adapt, don’t just adopt: Modify activities to match your learners’ context. For example, change names in math word problems to familiar ones from the community.
- Integrate with LAS (Learning Activity Sheets): Reinforce lessons through take-home practice.
- Blend with DLL (Daily Lesson Logs): Use exemplars as the core, then expand with DLLs for classroom structure.
- Support mixed learning: Exemplars are flexible—ideal for both face-to-face discussions and modular/online learning.
- Encourage play-based reinforcement. Example: counting sticks or role-playing stories for Reading.
- Document progress. Pair exemplars with formative assessments to see which competencies need reteaching.
- Collaborate with parents—share simplified versions of the week’s lesson so learning continues at home.
