Overview of Grade 1 Daily Lesson Logs for Quarter 2
In the second quarter, the Grade 1 DLL Week 1 to Week 8 covers core subjects like Language, Reading and Literacy, Mathematics, Makabansa, and GMRC. Each subject comes with age-appropriate competencies designed to build both skills and character.
- Language and Reading: Pupils work on combining letters into syllables and sentences, practicing comprehension through short passages and beginning to express simple ideas in writing.
- Mathematics: Learners practice addition and subtraction, recognize patterns and start problem-solving with everyday scenarios (like sharing snacks or counting toys).
- Makabansa: Focus is on introducing love of country, respect for symbols and simple duties as young Filipinos.
- GMRC: Pupils develop courtesy, honesty and responsibility, learning how to show respect at home, in school and in the community.
Some lessons are naturally light and enjoyable like singing rhymes in Filipino or counting with games, while others may be more challenging, such as mastering subtraction or retelling a story in sequence. How to Plan and Deliver these Lessons Effectively
Effective lesson delivery doesn’t mean filling every minute with rigid activities. It’s about creating balance. Based on the teaching insights, good lesson planning works best when it is:
Child-centered – Start with what pupils already know, then build from there. For example, when introducing subtraction, begin with concrete objects (candies, pencils) before moving to abstract numbers.
Flexible – Allow room for spontaneous learning moments. If a reading passage sparks a lively discussion, let pupils share their stories. This reinforces comprehension in meaningful ways.
Contextualized – Use real-life examples familiar to Grade 1 learners. For GMRC, teaching “paggalang” can be as simple as modeling how to say “po” and “opo” when speaking with elders.
Interactive – Blend songs, movement, and play. For instance, math patterns can be taught through clapping games or coloring activities.
Reflective – Use the DLL to jot down which strategies worked well and which need adjustment. Reflection turns each day into a learning opportunity for both teacher and pupil.
