What to Expect in Quarter 3 Week 1 Lesson Exemplars
Quarter 3 Week 1 marks a new phase of meaningful learning under the MATATAG Curriculum, emphasizing academic growth, values formation and community awareness. From foundational literacy in lower grades to higher-order reasoning and character-building in upper levels, this week’s exemplars integrate knowledge and values through contextualized and learner-centered instruction. Lessons connect home, school and society thus helping learners apply academic concepts to real-life situations while nurturing respect, cooperation and responsibility. These are all included in the Quarter 3 Week 1 Lesson Exemplars.
Key Subject Matter and Quarter 3 Week 1 Focus
Each grade level features a unified focus on community, identity and responsible citizenship.
Grades 1–2 concentrate on recognizing people and places in the community. English and Filipino lessons teach naming words, rhymes and polite expressions through stories like Didi’s Colorful Treasure and Helping Hands in My Community. Mathematics introduces data gathering using pictographs, while GMRC and Makabansa develop respect, helpfulness and awareness of school and community roles.
Grade 3 expands to communication, data handling and discovery. Pupils read narratives (Ang Punong Kawayan, Naging Sultan si Pilandok), create bar graphs and experiment with forces and motion in Science. Araling Panlipunan explores early Filipino life and MAPEH cultivates artistic expression and teamwork.
Grade 4 highlights nationhood and personal growth. Students learn the four elements of a country, discuss compassion in GMRC and explore forces, puberty, hygiene and nutrition. Music and Arts draw from legends like Mariang Sinukuan, linking folklore to rhythm and visual composition.
Grade 5 integrates critical thinking and social awareness. English analyzes The Nian Monster, Filipino discusses Ako, Bilang Isang Bata, Mathematics interprets double-bar graphs, and Science teaches safe medicine use. Araling Panlipunan tackles colonialism; GMRC and EPP emphasize compassion, productivity and livelihood; MAPEH explores 16th–17th-century art and wellness.
Grades 7–8 emphasize analytical, moral and creative growth. Filipino and English examine literary history and cultural expression, AP focuses on nationalism and modern Asia and Science explores force and motion or Earth’s crust. Mathematics links equations to real-world reasoning while TLE and Values Education strengthen life skills, honesty and self-confidence. MAPEH promotes wellness, artistic heritage and physical fitness.
Instructional Flow and Lesson Design Framework
- Across all grade levels, lessons follow a structured flow of motivation, exploration, practice and reflection.
- Teachers activate prior knowledge using songs, visual prompts and guided questions.
- New lessons are introduced through storytelling, experiments, or demonstrations that connect directly to learners’ experiences.
- Guided and independent activities such as bar-graph creation, dramatization, song interpretation and role-playing encourage participation and cooperation.
- Integration across subjects is consistent: Science connects with Math through data representation and GMRC merges with Reading through value-based stories.
- This design supports DepEd’s learner-centered pedagogy where discovery, collaboration and moral reflection happen naturally within the classroom.
