Overview of Grade 7 Quarter 3 Week 2 Lesson Exemplar
The Grade 7 Quarter 3 Week 2 Lesson Exemplar under the MATATAG Curriculum continues to strengthen learners’ holistic growth through academic rigor, moral grounding and real-world application. This week’s lessons promote the balance of intellect, creativity and values, emphasizing cultural awareness, scientific curiosity and health consciousness. Teachers guide students to think critically, act responsibly and communicate effectively while appreciating Filipino identity and the shared values of respect, empathy and self-discipline, the key elements of MATATAG learning.
Grade 7 Quarter 3 Week 1 Key Learning Areas and Focus
Each learning area in Week 2 aligns with MATATAG’s goal of developing competent and compassionate Filipino learners:
English – Reading passages on renewable energy and artificial intelligence helps students analyze real-world issues, identify author’s intent, and make informed judgments. Analyze informational texts to infer author’s purpose and message, identify target audiences, and summarize key evidence supporting arguments.
Filipino – Through Urbana at Feliza, learners explore moral conduct, modesty, and Christian values expressed in Spanish-era literature, linking them to present-day manners and ethics. Examine moral lessons and character portrayals in “Pagsusulatan nina Urbana at Feliza” and compose multimodal works showing the value of kagandahang-asal.
Araling Panlipunan – Focused on nationalism and the road to independence in the Philippines, Burma, Indonesia, and Vietnam, this lesson encourages patriotism and historical reflection. Compare the ways nations in Southeast Asia achieved independence and explain how nationalism fostered unity among colonized peoples.
Science – Students investigate forces and motion, exploring how vectors, diagrams, and balanced or unbalanced forces explain everyday phenomena like walking, driving, or playing sports. Represent balanced and unbalanced forces using free-body diagrams and interpret how the direction and magnitude of forces affect motion.
Mathematics – Activities integrate real-life problem-solving, such as interpreting PE data (BMI, pulse rate) or Science measurements (speed, distance, and time), reinforcing accuracy and reasoning. Solve real-life problems involving measurement, ratio, and percent with correct computation and reasoning; interpret results using appropriate mathematical language and justifications.
TLE – Lessons highlight productive craftsmanship, project accountability, and the value of sustainable design in community-related tasks. Apply creativity and responsibility in performing tasks that encourage productivity, innovation, and sustainable use of resources.
Values Education – Learners reflect on honesty, respect, and responsibility, practicing moral reasoning through role-play, reflection logs, and group agreements. Practice honesty, empathy, and digital courtesy in class activities; demonstrate self-control, teamwork, and respect for others’ ideas in group work.
Music and Arts – Exploration of post-war Philippine compositions and Southeast Asian art forms builds appreciation for cultural diversity and unity through artistic expression. Appreciate nationalistic post-war arts of the Philippines and Southeast Asia and create integrative artistic outputs expressing pride in heritage.
PE and Health – Students study the Pinggang Pinoy food guide, healthy eating habits, and daily routines that balance diet, exercise, and rest. Explain the importance of proper nutrition during adolescence, calculate body mass index (BMI), and participate in physical activities that promote well-being.

3rd Quarter Instructional Flow and Lesson Design
- Teaching follows the experiential, inquiry-based flow that defines the MATATAG Curriculum:
- Activation of Prior Knowledge: Short warm-ups include reading prompts, quick math estimations, or values-based discussions such as resolving group disagreements or identifying good conduct in class.
- Presentation of Objectives: Teachers introduce the day’s goals, connecting lessons to real-life situations—such as applying math in health or values in teamwork.
- Lesson Development: Students read texts, analyze concepts, and work in pairs or groups. In Math, they solve contextual problems; in Science, they draw vector diagrams; and in GMRC, they reflect on real moral choices.
- Practice and Application: Math: Learners compute and explain results of health or motion data.
- Science: Perform experiments or simulations illustrating balanced and unbalanced forces.
- GMRC: Apply respectful communication in group work and decision-making.
- Filipino & English: Create short essays or messages promoting positive values and critical awareness.
- Synthesis and Reflection:
- Students summarize key learnings and relate them to daily life—for instance, linking balanced nutrition to self-discipline or nationalism to responsible citizenship.
Grade 7 Teaching Materials and Resources
Teachers utilize both traditional and digital tools:
- Print and Text: Story excerpts, literary works (Urbana at Feliza), reading passages, and problem sets.
- Visual and Digital: PhET simulations (force diagrams), BMI charts, Pinggang Pinoy illustrations, and interactive videos on nationalism and the arts.
- Mathematics Tools: Graph papers, calculators, and real-life data sheets for computation and analysis.
- Values Materials: Reflection cards, class posters on virtues, and scenario-based discussions.
- PE and Health: Activity sheets on meal planning and physical wellness charts.
- These materials encourage hands-on learning, creativity, and contextual understanding.
Assessment and Reflection
Student learning is measured through varied performance tasks and formative assessments:
- English and Filipino: Short quizzes, summarizing and paraphrasing exercises, and creative writing tasks.
- Araling Panlipunan: Graphic organizers comparing independence movements; oral presentations on nationalism.
- Science: Worksheets on drawing and interpreting free-body diagrams.
- Mathematics: Problem-solving exercises that connect numerical data with real-life scenarios (e.g., energy use, BMI, or travel distance).
- EPP/TLE: Project-based evaluation focused on creativity, sustainability, and productivity.
- GMRC / Values Education: Reflection journals, behavior observation rubrics, and group performance on moral decision-making.
- Music and Arts: Simple performance or artwork inspired by nationalistic themes.
- PE and Health: Fitness self-checks, food logs, and computation of BMI with reflection on healthy habits.
These assessments not only gauge knowledge but also nurture responsibility, empathy, and self-awareness.
