Overview of Grade 4 Quarter 3 Week 2 Lesson Exemplar
The Grade 4 Quarter 3 Week 2 Lesson Exemplar under the MATATAG Curriculum continues to strengthen pupils’ foundational knowledge and character development through integrated and contextualized learning. This week focuses on academic mastery, social responsibility and the appreciation of Filipino culture. Each subject reinforces values such as compassion, cooperation and discipline while engaging learners in hands-on, meaningful experiences that link classroom concepts to daily life. The exemplar aims to develop well-rounded learners who think critically, act kindly and contribute positively to their community.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the week, learners are expected to demonstrate skills and understanding across all subject areas.
- In Filipino, pupils compose a liham pangkaibigan (pakikiramay) using correct grammar and proper emotional tone.
- In English, they apply comprehension and writing skills through friendly letters and short texts.
- In Mathematics, learners identify multiples and factors up to 100 and use them to find equivalent fractions.
- In Araling Panlipunan, they study the tatlong sangay ng pamahalaan and recognize how each branch works together for the nation’s progress.
- In Science, pupils explore how heat changes the form and properties of materials through observation and simple experiments.
- In EPP, they understand the importance of food safety, nutrition, and hygienic preparation.
- GMRC lessons focus on compassion and the family’s role in helping others, while
- Music and Arts highlight creative expression through local legends and cultural performances.
Grade 4 Quarter 3 Week 2 Key Learning Areas and Focus
The week’s interdisciplinary lessons connect knowledge with real-life applications:
Filipino: Learners write a liham pakikiramay, identifying its parts, pamuhatan, bating panimula, katawan ng liham, bating pangwakas, and lagda while practicing the use of hugnayang pangungusap.
English: Emphasis is placed on word choice and paragraph structure to express empathy and sincerity in letters.
Mathematics: Pupils find multiples and factors of given numbers up to 100 and apply them to identify equivalent fractions, relating mathematical equality to fairness in daily life.
Science: The topic “Changes That Materials Undergo When Exposed to Heat” helps learners observe physical and chemical changes, such as melting, boiling, and evaporation. They distinguish between reversible and irreversible changes and follow safety practices during experiments.
Araling Panlipunan: Students analyze the powers and functions of the Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary branches of government and understand the importance of check-and-balance in governance.
EPP: The focus is on the Five Keys to Safer Food—clean, separate, cook, chill, and use safe water—and understanding food labels to make healthy choices. Learners identify nutritious and unsafe foods, linking the lesson to the UN Article 24 on the child’s right to good nutrition.
GMRC: Learners practice empathy by identifying family roles in community service and reflecting on ways to show compassion.
Music and Arts: Through Sinukuan: The Kapampangan Legend of Mount Arayat, pupils identify sound, dance, theatrical, and visual elements that express cultural identity.
Teaching and Learning Procedures
Each day begins with activities that activate prior knowledge such as reviews, games, or reflections. Teachers guide pupils in exploring new topics through storytelling, demonstrations, group tasks and guided experiments. Lessons progress from understanding to application, writing letters of sympathy, solving numerical problems, experimenting with heat and materials, dramatizing government roles and creating cultural art pieces. Collaborative learning, peer evaluation and sharing sessions encourage participation and reinforce comprehension.

Art supplies, concept maps, and performance rubrics further enhance engagement.
Assessment and Reflection
Performance-based tasks and formative assessments measure pupils’ mastery and values application. In Filipino, English and Math, pupils complete written tasks and problem sets. In Science and EPP, they conduct short experiments and demonstrations on food safety. Creative projects, oral sharing, and dramatizations assess understanding in Araling Panlipunan, GMRC and MAPEH. Reflection activities help pupils internalize how knowledge, compassion and responsibility build a healthier and more disciplined community.
