What to Expect in Grade 2 Quarter 3 Lesson Exemplars
Quarter 3 strengthens foundational literacy, numeracy and positive Filipino values through community-themed lessons. Across eight weeks, learners connect reading and writing with daily life, apply multiplication and division in practical tasks and deepen respect for family, school and barangay. Instruction is contextual, values-integrated and aligned with MATATAG’s aim to build capable, caring and community-oriented pupils.
By the end of the third quarter, pupils read with better fluency, write clear sentences, solve basic operations, interpret simple data and demonstrate civic values in action.
Grade 2 Key Subject Matter and Learning Focus for the 3rd Quarter
English. Pupils read poems, short stories and informational texts such as Helping Hands in My Community, Today is Moving Day and farm-themed pieces. They decode CVCe, CVVC, and CCVC patterns, identify rhymes and sight words, describe characters and settings, explain cause and effect, follow and write simple procedures and compose polite requests or exclamations.
Filipino. Learners study alamat, pabula, and poems like Ang Aking Komunidad. They practice diptonggo and klaster, analyze elemento ng kuwento and construct pangungusap using panghalip, pantukoy, and sentence types (paturol, patanong, pakiusap, padamdam). They retell events in sequence and relate texts to real experiences.
Mathematics. Learners collect and read data using tables and pictographs, master multiplication facts for 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10, connect multiplication to repeated addition and begin division through equal sharing or grouping. Word problems use money, sets of objects and daily routines.
Makabansa. Lessons cover community livelihoods and services in health, safety, education, commerce and transportation. Pupils describe jobs, local products and duties of workers while connecting rights and responsibilities of young citizens.
GMRC. Weekly themes build kindness, gratitude, cooperation, cleanliness and care for the environment. Learners practice polite expressions, thank-you letters, and everyday acts of helpfulness at home and in school.
Grade 2 3rd Quarter Instructional Flow and Lesson Design Framework
Each week follows a clear cycle: motivation, concept development, guided practice, independent work and reflection. Teachers open lessons with songs, chants, picture talks or games to activate prior knowledge. New ideas are modeled through read-alouds, demonstrations and think-alouds. Learners practice through pair work, centers and role-play, then apply skills in short writing tasks, math drills and community-themed projects. Reflection questions close the session to connect learning with daily life.
