Now that the school year moves into the second quarter, Grade 4 learners bring with them a mix of excitement and determination. Many have just completed their first periodical tests, proudly sharing their scores with classmates or quietly resolving to do better next time. Teachers, too, take this moment to reflect, which strategies worked well in Quarter 1? Where did students struggle most? Should lessons be adjusted to help everyone succeed? This is where the Grade 4 Quarter 2 Lesson Exemplars (LE) become so valuable.

Lesson exemplars serve as structured guides aligned with the DepEd MATATAG Curriculum and Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs). They offer teachers a roadmap for meeting content standards, performance standards and weekly learning objectives while ensuring activities are developmentally appropriate for 10-year-old learners. For parents, exemplars give a clearer picture of what their children will study, helping them provide support at home.

Whether it’s a Filipino lesson on analyzing narrative and informational texts, an English activity applying critical literacy, or a hands-on EPP/TLE project exploring ICT, agriculture, or simple home skills, these resources are designed to make Quarter 2 meaningful, relevant, and connected to real life.

Grade 4 Quarter 2 Lesson Exemplars (LE) Compilation SY 2025–2026

Quarter 2 strengthens foundational skills while introducing new challenges. Each subject carries its own set of learning competencies:

  • Filipino. Learners expand vocabulary, deepen grammar awareness and analyze both narrative and informative texts. Writing activities focus on anekdota, alamat and impormatibong teksto, encouraging students to apply language in cultural and personal contexts. They also practice friendly letters and simple compositions, reinforcing Filipino identity and communication skills.
  • English. The focus is on applied and critical literacy. Students read short stories and informational texts, analyze main ideas and supporting details and express insights through writing. Competencies emphasize comprehension, vocabulary growth, grammar mastery and creating texts for different audiences, helping learners become more confident readers and writers.
  • Mathematics. Quarter 2 lessons build on prior operations, moving towards multiplication and division of larger numbers, factors and multiples and an introduction to fractions. Competencies involve applying problem-solving strategies in real-life contexts such as budgeting, grouping, or measuring, making math practical and relevant.
  • Science. Topics this quarter revolve around plants, animals and matter. Learners study the functions of plant parts, classify animals and explore changes in matter (solid, liquid, gas). Weekly lessons highlight how science connects to daily life for example, understanding why plants need sunlight or how water changes states when heated.
  • Araling Panlipunan. Learners explore Philippine geography and history, focusing on their province and region. Competencies include mapping, recognizing local leaders and appreciating cultural diversity. Quarter 2 also introduces discussions on resources and how communities work together, fostering civic pride and responsibility.
  • EPP/TLE. Students rotate through the four components:
    • ICT – Basic word processing (typing, editing, saving documents).
    • Agriculture – Growing vegetables or ornamental plants.
    • Family and Consumer Science – Food preparation and simple home management.
    • Industrial Arts – Hands-on projects like simple woodworking or basic repairs.
      These build lifelong skills while teaching responsibility and self-reliance.
  • MAPEH (Music, Arts, PE, Health)
    • Music: Reading rhythmic patterns, singing folk songs, and applying dynamics.
    • Arts: Using elements like line, color, and texture to create artworks inspired by community and culture.
    • PE: Mastering locomotor and non-locomotor skills through games and dances.
    • Health: Lessons on personal hygiene, safety, and nutrition, helping learners adopt healthy habits.
  • GMRC/Values Education. Quarter 2 values lessons emphasize respect, responsibility and community involvement. Competencies guide learners to practice honesty, teamwork and empathy both in school and at home, nurturing not just academic excellence but character formation.

Each week is carefully planned in the exemplars, ensuring that lessons are spiral and progressive from simple knowledge in Week 1 to integrated performance tasks by Week 8. Topics are also tied directly to content and performance standards making them suitable for both formative assessments and quarter-end exams.

Including these subjects in Quarter 2 is crucial because they strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy while introducing practical life skills. They are aligned with DepEd’s MATATAG objectives of making learning relevant, contextual, and competency-based.

How to Use These Exemplars Effectively

  • Adapt to class needs: Use the exemplars as a base plan but adjust pacing depending on your students’ mastery.
  • Integrate LAS (Learning Activity Sheets): Pair exemplars with LAS for reinforcement and self-study.
  • Blend modalities: Exemplars are flexible; they can support both in-person teaching and online or modular learning.
  • Track progress: Align quizzes, performance tasks, and reviews directly with the weekly competencies outlined in the exemplars.
  • For smoother lesson delivery, pair exemplars with Daily Lesson Logs (DLLs). DLLs complement exemplars by providing daily structure, while exemplars ensure alignment with DepEd’s curriculum standards.
